If you haven’t been following the story of Bert Leahy, I’ll give you the short version: Leahy was a freelance (wog) cameraman hired to work with the Squirrel Busters, the Church group that is harassing Marty, for $2,000 a week. Once he figured out who was going on, Leahy had an attack of conscience (as well as a concern that being seen working for the Church of Scientology would ruin his reputation). Leahy got in touch with Marty and the local papers and came clean. You can find the full story in this Corpus Christi Caller-Times article. The Village Voice also picked up the story.
Marty, needless to say, is having a field day, and I say good for him. The Church of Scientology’s harassment of Marty and his wife Mosey is just plain wrong, and it’s great to see it exposed. Marty has posted a for part video of an interview with Leahy (YouTube links: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4). Leahy tells his story, although Marty keeps steering the conversation to the behavior of Dave Lubow, who apparently hired Leahy under a pseudonym.
Now, I understand Marty wanting to get to the bottom of this, and prove that Lubow is the puppet-master. But if Marty really wants to know why he’s being harassed, he need look no further than his idol and guru, L. Ron Hubbard.
LRH not only directed his followers what to do, but incited raw hatred against squirrels. Let’s see what the Ol’ Fraud had to say:
“People such as our best known ‘squirrels’ are perfectly willing to snatch our hard won materials and misuse them, but they are not willing to support the effort which brought these materials into being. In other words, their existence is parasitic. Completely aside from the perversion of materials, this is what we have against them… their lies, stupidities, vilifications are all a statement that they are unwilling to pay for what they use. There is more – a lot more. Search the Scientology Policy Packs for “squirrel” and you’ll see. There are many optimists who hope that Marty and his ilk can create a kinder, gentler Scientology, but it’s important to know how LRH instructed his followers to treat people who want do to Scientology their own way – even if these people are your closest friends. Or your parents. Or your spouse. Or your children.
And, of course, there are the policies about “noisy investigation,” which explains the Squirrel Busters. You’ve read them a dozen times, so I’ll just post a quick recap:

It’s great that the world is seeing just how slimy Scientology is, but I do wish Marty would talk about the root cause of this hatred – the man who tried to style himself as “a friend to all mankind.”
Now, I have been accused of not being open to Marty possibly trying to create a better Scientology, one without the abuses being carried on by the Miscavige routine. That’s a fair accusation. So Marty, I’ll give you the chance:
Will you, either here or on your blog, denounce the L. Ron Hubbard policies that dictate the hatred towards Independents and the sort of harassment you’re being put through by the Church?
Will you even acknowledge their existence?
The protest movement is waiting, Marty. Well, at least one of us is.
(Stop press: I don’t think Marty will do it. Just as I was ready to publish, Marty posted this blog entry, in which he specifically defined what the Church is doing as “harassment” rather than “investigation,” thereby protecting the tech. I’d love ask Marty if, when Hubbard had a Scientologist show up to Paulette Cooper’s door with flowers and a gun, that was “harassment” or “investigation.”)
