Someone made a comment recently that Marty Rathbun is starting to buy into his own bullshit, just like Hubbard did. And I’m starting to think that myself.
Check out Marty’s blog entry Bridge Collapse Catastrophe or Instant Karma?. There’s a scan of a success story from someone who apparently completed OT7 in 18 months. (OT7 is a very long level that requires the sucker customer Scientologist to return to Florida every 6 months to be checked. Real money maker, that one.) Again, it’s pretty clear to me that this is just an anecdotal success story. Marty’s interpretation:

First of all, the idea that Marty “exposed” OTVII as one of Scientology’s cash cows is utter bullshit. Marty really is channeling Hubbard by laying claim to other people’s accomplishments! Ex-Scios and Independents have been complaining about the length of OTVII since long before the days when Marty helped Miscavige turn the Church into what it is now. So, Marty, STFU and stop trying to take credit for all the work that REAL protesters have done.
Second, how one derives from a single success story that David Miscavige has ORDERED things done is beyond me. It’s crazy-talk. And it hurts the legitimate protest movement, because it makes it look like the only way to oppose the organized Church is to grasp at straws.
Unless… unless… hey, wait — unless Marty is still working for the Church and is trying to make those who oppose Miscavige sound like delusional idiots! Oh my God… it’s REVERSE SCIENTOLOGY PROTESTING!!!
And to think — Tony Ortega, editor-in-chief of the Village Voice, takes this guy seriously. Really, Ton?

There’s no question that running Marty stories in the VV pisses off the Church of Scientology so that might be Tony Ortega’s motivation as much as anything.
Marty is really damaging his credibility with anyone who has half a brain and today’s 200+ comments on the subject of banking. investment and economics are just ignorant beyond belief. Even the Hubbard quotes the posters are trotting out to support their arguments show a total failure to understand economics.
Don’t get me wrong; I think Marty’s doing a great job of enturbulating (God, I love that word!) the cult as well as giving those who still believe in the tech a place to go outside the CoS, but you can only have your intelligence insulted so many times before your head begins to hurt.

I agree wholeheartedly. Funny thing is, he tries to pass himself off as “self-educated” from the many books he seems to insinuate he’s read. Well, he should’ve read one on Creative Writing and done a little “cramming” in spelling, and grammar, too.
Of course, I’m quite aware those who “believe in the faith” of $cientology will say that I’m simply “nattering.” I am pretty sure I’ve never committed an “overt” on Mahty (as Rinder would say his name); unless, criticising someone’s lack of knowledge of grammar and bad spelling is considered a SIN in the cult.

One aspect of $cientology that needs more study, is it’s effect on the CONSCIENCE (yes, not consciousness). Marty’s blog exhibits perfect tidbits of folks who have either a seriously altered conscience, or none at all (like Marty). It is obvious that $cientology was designed to impress ElRon’s psyche on others,with varying effects determined by the psyche of the individual being brainwashed, but just by looking at actions by Marty and others us ‘wogs’ can plainly see the lack of a functioning conscience. Their motto should be “Do unto others, and then take off.”

No need to apologize…….(wow, i guess you HAVE a conscience) BUT…A FANTASTIC POINT you have made !!! I bet its safe to say you have never heard an **APOLOGY ** from Hubbard, Miscavige, or MARTY RATHBUN………and, I bet its safe to say – you never will – .
Persons with an “attachment disorder” can exhibit a lack of conscience and a host of other behaviors that I have seen in many applying-scientologists. That is an interesting effect of the “tech” that I had not thought of previously but helps in my understanding of how some really wonderful people who despite all their good intent are such assholes.

The clear to OTVII in one year is great advertising for the cult, and isn’t that what it is mostly anyway? It’ll make people pay and struggle to get to clear, thinking that after that, they can glide on to super powers, like Marty’s or DM’s. And if they get stuck on the OT bridge for 15 years, they pulled it in.
The scam is predicated on dangling promises, and then making people pay out, when they don’t get them, they’ll strive to get them, and blame themselves if they aren’t getting them.
It is no accident that people from Tory, getting stuck on a an OT level, to “clears” that get invalidated (and must repeat certain steps to “clear”), that people start waking up at that point. It’s a final straw.
As some people on ESMB pointed out, when DM or someone decides someone who was clear, suddenly isn’t, the reason that person often freaks out, is because DM is telling the truth. They weren’t “clear” because no one is clear.
If “clear” were real, no one would be able to invalidate it in your mind, just by saying you aren’t clear.
“Clear,” “super powers,” “higher IQ” are all fleeting goals, feelings that people have, and when you don’t have others affirming your feelings, they just disappear. The placebo effect is real, and it works, but it disappears or stops working in most people, without the support and affirmation of others.
Why not a one year OT bridge? Hubbard himself researched the secret to turning the insane to sane, in seconds, with his de-insane-o-rizer stick — had the plans all drawn up — but he just couldn’t find the right oscillatory frequency. (Because he was so ahead of his time.)
I think the bottom line is that it doesn’t have to be true, it just has to be agreed to. And it applies to any religion, IMO, not just Marty’s spinoff. Any time you let someone else tell you what to think, you’re opening the door to this same kind of bullshit.
I’m just so over the whole Scientology thing from all sides. It’s in my past, and I’ve decided that it’s ok for me to leave it there.
I have not spent one second in a $cientology building or spent one dime on anything $cientology, BUT, that doesn’t mean i can’t see what is really going on. It also means that I truly cannot not make heads or tails of most of the garbage that the Tubby Ole Man wrote.

Just for shits and giggles, could someone, anyone please explain this paragraph Ole Tubby wrote back in the day. I’m sure it means something that could be explained in NORMAL vocabulary and prose, and means something simple, but you know ElRon, the walking talking contradiction. He was always simplifying by using acronyms and contractions, but then he would write an eight paragraph policy letter explaining how one flushes a toilet. Anyway here is the paragraph :
