The Data Series is full of L. Ron Hubbard’s examples that the Wog world in general – and academia, governments, and the military in particular – are stupid and incompetent. Read through the Data Series and you’ll find scores of statements like this one from Data Series 6R:
“The reason I am using [government] intelligence examples is because these are the biggest human data collection ‘professionals’ in the world. The collection and use of data to estimate situations to guide national actions and the data collection by a housewife going shopping are based on the same principles.

Those of us on the outside know why LRH had such a chip on his shoulder about these organizations – because they dared to be critical of him. (If you’re not familiar, read Bare Faced Messiah.) Come on – intelligence services no more sophisticated than a housewife on a shopping run? But wait – Hubbard had facts!
“…A report is considered true or factual only if the source is well thought of… Philby, as a high British intelligence official, was a Russian spy for 30 years. Any data he gave the UK or US was ‘true’ because he was a ‘reliable source.’ He had every Western agent who was being sent into communist areas ‘fingered’ and shot. The West became convinced you could not enter or overthrow communist held areas and stopped trying! Philby was the top authority! He fooled CIA and MI-6 for years!” — LRH
A likely story… until you look into it.
I’m no expert, but if my history is correct, Kim Philby was a communist since around 1930, joined the British Secret Service in 1940, and started working with the CIA in 1949. He was under suspicion by the early 1950s; in fact, CIA asked the British government to fire him in 1951. Philby was, in fact, discharged by the SIS, and though he was later cleared and reinstated, within a few years he was again suspected of being a spy. Philby defected to the Soviet Union in 1963.
To say that Philby had ‘every western agent…fingered and shot” is not true. Hubbard wrote this policy in 1970, right in the midst of the Vietnam War, so clearly, the West had not given up on entering or overthrowing communist-held areas. And to imply that Philby fooled both the British and US governments for the better part of 30 years is a gross oversimplification and a misinterpretation of the truth. Typical Hubbard.
It’s funny – Scientologists often remind us that Hubbard urged his followers to “look for themselves” and find the truth. And yet when you look at what Hubbard presents as facts, they simply don’t hold water.
How can Scientologists insist on taking what Hubbard says as gospel?

Well in $cientology 2.0, (marty’s bunch) they can pick and choose what they want to use from lrh. In Cwazy widdle Davy’s version, not so much.

I think that LRH representing himself such as a nuclear physicist and a naval vet helped to sway people to believe in his writings and statements. At least for myself, I was niave enough (and much younger) and had no reasong to think that someone with his credentials wouldn’t lie.
Another thing about the Data Series is that it is scientology training on how to think and investigate.
And, it is, itself, rife with illogic and giant pitfalls.
Lrh was a naval vet, whose commander saw fit to insure he always had ‘adult supervision’, i.e. he couldn’t command a ship alone (he did after all shell Mexico).
He contracted gonorrhea from a ‘loose woman’, and tried to hide that from everyone (including his wife).
He failed several subjects in college, leaving without any kind of degree whatsoever.
Failing that, he made up his own college, and gave himself a diploma in that!
‘Blood brother’ of an indian tribe who didn’t do that type of thing, and denied ever even knowing him.
Charged with theft in California, court docs online, stealing his buddy’s boat and running off with it, not so much.
Due to his naval evaluation and his requests for mental health treatment, he would never have been allowed to have a security clearance, so all his so-called ‘intel’ experience was so much BS.
Letters he wrote to the FBI were ignored, and annotated to indicated he was nuts!
ALL THESE THINGS ARE OUT THERE ON THE INTERNET FOR ALL TO SEE. How could ANYBODY follow such a man? I personally wouldn’t want to be in the same room with him, and certainly wouldn’t allow children near someone like that.
That is the $64,000 question.
I don’t contest a thing you are saying here, WJ – but there wasn’t an internet out there in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s for all to see. Lots of people had taken the bait by then, and pulled the wool over their eyes, put on the blinders and ear plugs and moved on into the 80’s and present time.
Agreed about the Internet, although don’t forget all the tools LRH gave his followers that allow them to ignore anti-Scientology data (or anything they just don’t like to hear) without a second thought. LRH did a good job insulating his followers from the real world. It’s our job to pick away at that!

That’s part of what any religion is all about, to insulate themselves from the rest of the world with their ideas and beliefs and rituals and agreements. It creates a bubble that one lives inside of. Sometimes it’s nice in the bubble. Other times, not so much, especially when the insulation is no longer needed or wanted.
The tragicomic with Scientology is that L. Ron Hubbard was nothing in reality, yet he deluded some people to believe that he was the greatest man who has ever lived. The tragedy of it is that Scientologists suffer from cognitive dissonance in the sense that they really believe that their life has been improved by Scientology, yet nobody except himself or herself “can see it!” Somehow they are insulated from the reality that their relatives, and neighbours, friends, etc are not Scientologists, which they should be if they were inspired by the result! I have even pointed out that case gains are in the main delusional at Jeff Hawkins Home site, but it didn’t pass his moderation!

I have also pointed out that the Loyalists latest move ‘Lois Garcia’s letter to David Miscavige’ is biased, and thus doesn’t tell the truth as it is. Lois Garcia claim that disconnection was cancelled by L. Ron Hubbard 1968, and I pointed out that is not truth, but it didn’t pass moderation at Hawkins either. I have posted it on Operation Clambake as part of my reply to Caroline Letkeman, she is Gerry Armstrong’s wife, she has posted a document there, it is an SP-Declare from 1972 which shows that fare game was still in use! Her message, and my reply are in the end of page 11.

So in his latest posting Marty makes fun of Miscavige’s “grounding tech” and based on his tech expertise concludes that Miscavige must have an implant, because his tech is 180° contrary to what Scientology is about, yet he is ignorant of the fact that actually Hubbard himself proposed “grounding tech” for a process in the book Scientology 8-80 ;-P

I’m sure that some Scientologists (most?) don’t read or comprehend the writings they are given as gospel. They are then cowed into compliance by the fear of being found out that they can’t comprehend the vast ramblings of a mad man. Do you think this is accidental, or by design? LRH certainly seemed like someone who thought his prolific writings could be easily read and digested, so I’m guessing this was a happy accident that often happens in religions and cults. Telling the flock they will be enlightened when they understand the texts, makes everyone pretend to understand.
